Dothan, Ala. (WDNews) After a recent expansion to accommodate an expanding student body, two elementary schools in Dothan will begin the 2025–2026 school year with freshly constructed classroom spaces.
Modern amenities, including four cutting-edge classrooms, were added by Morris Slingluff Elementary and Highlands Elementary.
Serving students in kindergarten through fifth grade, the new area at Highlands is devoted to special education and the LinC program. Three fourth grade classrooms, a special education room, and a new meeting room will all be housed in Slingluff’s addition.
According to Beth Bouchard, the principal of Highlands, “We are thankful for the expansion of Highlands with the new building adding needed classrooms for our increasing enrollment.” Our community, parents, teachers, staff, and kids are very excited about this stunning new building!
With new resources and technology, both campuses can now provide students with more engaged learning possibilities.
We can now provide all of our services, including special education services, in the proper location thanks to the new building. Darius McKay, the principal of Slingluff, added.
Lewis Construction finished the $2 million upgrades in April, and they represent a calculated investment made by Dothan City Schools in anticipation of future community expansion.
Acting Superintendent Lee Jacobs stated, “These new buildings are a testament to our commitment to meeting the needs of our growing student population.” We are thrilled to provide our employees and students with large, contemporary facilities that will improve learning opportunities.
For many years to come, it is anticipated that the new classrooms will be crucial to promoting student achievement in both schools. Dothan City Schools shared the images of the expansions to Slingluff Elementary School that are shown here.
