As Independence Day draws near, Dothan police are warning citizens that using fireworks is prohibited inside the city limits and that anyone found in violation may be issued a citation (WDNews).
Throughout the holiday weekend, Dothan Police Department officers will be on patrol and responding to reports of unlawful fireworks.
We would prefer to prioritize safety for readers who are permitted to use fireworks at home (remember, this is not anyone in the Dothan city limits!).
The following crucial safety advice is provided by the National Council on Fireworks Safety for anyone using fireworks in locations where it is permitted:
- Use fireworks outdoors only.
- Always obey local laws.
- Keep water nearby a hose or bucket works best.
- Never alter or combine fireworks.
- Don t try to relight a dud wait 20 minutes, then soak it.
- Keep a safe distance, and shooters should wear safety glasses.
- Never mix alcohol and fireworks have a designated shooter.
- Children under 12 should not handle sparklers.
- Never use homemade or illegal explosives.
- The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) also warns sparklers alone can reach temperatures of 1,200 F hot enough to melt glass and cause serious burns.
Instead than utilizing homemade pyrotechnics, fire officials advise the people to appreciate professional performances.
