DOTHAN, AL (WDNews) — There are now two candidates for the position of Dothan’s next education superintendent, but neither is from the area.
The Dothan City School Board declared that it will proceed with the second round of interviews for Georgia assistant superintendent Dr. Garrick Askew and New Jersey superintendent Dr. Kari McCann.
Three other applicants, including two well-known names—Dr. Charles Corbett, a current DCS employee, and Dr. Donnie Chambers, a former administrator at Dothan—were not chosen for advancement by the board. Additionally, Tuscumbia’s Dr. Veronica Bayles was disqualified from consideration.
The Flemington-Raritan Regional School District in New Jersey is now led by Dr. McCann. In Athens, Georgia, Dr. Askew is the assistant superintendent for the Clarke County School District.
There has been no announcement of a final decision date.
Assistant Superintendent Lee Jacobs has been appointed by the board to act as temporary superintendent in lieu of current Superintendent Dr. Dennis Coe, who is scheduled to retire on June 30 after five years of service.
