Dothan Fire Chief Larry H. Williams, Jr. has announced his retirement, effective January 1, 2026, following more than 40 years in public service (WDNews).
Chief Williams has been with the City of Dothan for about 38 years, including the last 19 years as the department’s fire chief. Serving the towns of Eufaula, Ozark, and Dothan, he started his public safety career in 1982 as a young paramedic with the Dothan/Pilcher Ambulance Service.
“Being Dothan’s Fire Chief has been an honor and a true blessing,” Williams stated. I am incredibly appreciative of the chance to have collaborated with some of the bravest and most committed people in our field. The public’s steadfast support of me and our DFD Team, as well as everything we have achieved together, fill me with immense pride.
The Dothan Fire Department has become a model of excellence under his direction, with a focus on safety, modernization, and active community involvement. Williams thanked his colleagues and mentors for helping to shape his path and acknowledged their influence on his leadership.
Considering the future, Williams stated that he will continue to concentrate on making sure the department has a seamless transition.
According to him, we are all committed to sticking to our common goal: To ensure the safety and security of our community while maintaining the ageless Big Five Priorities: Our Members, Our Buildings and Grounds, Our Vehicles and Equipment, Our Citizens, and Our Community Involvement.
Williams concluded by saying, I pray for the safety, success, and prosperity of each and every member of the Dothan Fire Department, as well as for ongoing blessings upon our department and our city.
Williams’ 43-year career in fire and emergency services comes to an end with his retirement, leaving a legacy of leadership and dedication to the Wiregrass community.
