Dothan, Ala. (WDNews) –
A death investigation is underway following the death of a Houston County inmate early Wednesday morning.
According to Houston County Coroner Robert Byrd, 38-year-old Markee McKnight was pronounced dead at 5:19 a.m. on June 11 at Southeast Health. McKnight had been transported from the Houston County Jail prior to his death.
Sources say that McKnight was recently taken into custody over the past weekend. His cause of death has not yet been determined, and his body will undergo an autopsy by the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences.
The Alabama State Bureau of Investigations is leading the case. Authorities have confirmed that McKnight’s next of kin has been notified. This story will be updated as more information is provided.
