CHOOSE Act Families Can Now Use Their State Funds

MONTGOMERY, AL. (WDNews) Governor Kay Ivey said Tuesday, July 1, that families in Alabama who were accepted for the CHOOSE Act’s Education Savings Accounts (ESAs) can now start spending their money for the 2025–2026 academic year.

Over 23,000 students in the state have been granted ESA financial approval. Through the first year of the program, more than $124 million is being disbursed to encourage school choice, according to the Alabama Department of Revenue (ALDOR).

Around July 1, the program’s financial platform, ClassWallet, will send parents a welcome email with access details and spending guidelines.

Families are permitted to use the funds on a variety of authorized educational services under the CHOOSE Act. Through state-approved education service providers, money is made available for educational therapy, tutoring, and school tuition.

Families who are approved will get:

  • $7,000 per student enrolled in a participating private school

  • $2,000 per homeschooled student, capped at $4,000 per family

According to Governor Ivey, our CHOOSE Act education savings accounts are now prepared to assist thousands of Alabama families and students with their particular educational requirements. Our state’s ESA program, which offers opportunity, flexibility, and choice in our children’s education, has gained enormous popularity in just its first year.

In the 67 counties of Alabama, almost 36,000 students have applied since the application period began in January 2025. Families should check www.chooseact.alabama.gov, which also includes a Parent Guide, frequently asked questions, and a list of authorized providers, for updates and forthcoming webinars, according to state officials.

In January 2026, enrollment will open for the 2026–2027 academic year.
