Boaters should exercise additional caution this holiday weekend, according to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA), especially since high temperatures are predicted throughout the state.

According to Colonel Jon Archer, a combination of the sun, wind, vibration, engine noise, and wave motion causes boater’s weariness. a confluence of several elements that can subtly impair judgment and delay responses.

Archer went on to say that drinking alcohol exacerbates this effect. It’s critical to understand how rapidly these circumstances can affect your capacity to make wise choices when out on the water.

Beachgoers should be mindful of rip current conditions and monitor the daily warning flag system. Additionally, authorities advise staying cautious on the water by:

According to the U.S. Coast Guard, four out of the top five reasons for accidents involving recreational boats are related to boater weariness.
