BAINBRIDGE, GA. (WDNews) — District Attorney Joe Mulholland is denouncing the conduct and vowing to prosecute those responsible right away after a South Georgia judge was threatened after granted bond in a child abuse case.
Yvette Thurston, 54, was arrested Monday, according to Bainbridge police, and is accused of three counts of first-degree child abuse and first-degree aggravated violence.
Thurston has now bonded out of the Decatur County Jail, according to jail records.
Children in our community are entrusted to others for their safety while their parents work to earn a living, and our office will not stand for abuse of them, Mulholland stated. Threats against our judges, who are performing their sworn duties in accordance with Georgia law, will also not be tolerated. We will take immediate and severe action against anyone who threatens to jeopardize our children’s safety or the integrity of our legal system.
Mulholland underlined his office’s dedication to safeguarding children, assisting victims, and making sure the legal system is administered without coercion or violence.
He went on to say that our community is built on the rule of law. Our judges ought to be able to carry out their responsibilities without worrying about their safety. You have no right to threaten them or their families, even if you disagree with their choices. My office will prosecute you to the fullest extent of the law if you do.
According to the District Attorney’s Office, it is actively monitoring the threats in conjunction with law enforcement and will take all legal measures to hold those responsible accountable.
