Dale County Sheriff Mason Bynum told local media that deputies responded to a call reporting a firearm assault at a residence on West Main Street in Ariton shortly after 2 a.m. Saturday.
According to reports citing Dale County Coroner John Cawley, deputies arrived to find a man, identified as Shawn Watson, dead from a gunshot wound in a bed. Though the couple was married, they reportedly used different last names.
Sheriff Bynum reportedly stated that investigators believe Huffstutler shot Watson while he was asleep. Five children were said to be inside the home at the time, but no witnesses to the shooting have been identified.
