DOTHAN, AL (WDNews)—The Youth Leadership Dothan Houston County program, a dynamic leadership program for high school juniors who want to change their community, is accepting applications starting Monday.

For the seven-month program, 40–44 kids are chosen annually through interviews from public, private, and home schools in Dothan and Houston County. In addition to developing leadership abilities, self-assurance, and friendships, participants in the monthly seminars gain an inside look into local government, healthcare, education, and business. A community service project and a team-building retreat are part of the program.

Interviews are scheduled for September 23 and 24, and applications are accepted from August 18 to September 12. With one full-day session per month from 7:45 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., the program runs from November through May. Attendance at opening and closing retreats is required, and sessions are held at several places across the county.

Candidates must be 11th graders in Dothan City or Houston County who are enrolled in public, private, or homeschool programs; they must also be at least 15 years old and, if homeschooling, members of a local homeschool association.

Meals, supplies, and transportation are included in the $375 price. Regardless of financial situation, organizers invite all interested students to apply for partial scholarships.

It is possible to apply at www.dothan.com/home/youth-leadership. Applications that arrive late will not be accepted.
