Alabama Lowers Flags to Honor Texas Flooding Victims

Following the devastating death toll from recent flooding in the Texas Hill Country, Governor Kay Ivey of Alabama has ordered flags to be flown at half-staff on state property (WDNews).

Flags at the Alabama State Capitol Complex in Montgomery and around the state will be flown at half-staff until sunrise on Monday, July 14, 2025, with immediate effect. In support of the state of Texas and in honor of those lost in the terrible floods that struck over the July 4 weekend, the order has been issued.

The gesture is intended to memorialize those who lost their lives as a result of the disastrous floods that hit Texas over the July 4th weekend, according to a similar edict issued earlier Wednesday by Texas Governor Greg Abbott. Sarah Marsh of Mountain Brook, Alabama, and members of the Santana family from Mobile are among the more than 100 confirmed fatalities. A number of others remain unaccounted for.

Alabama is joining Texas in remembering the lives lost, including Alabama victims, Governor Ivey said, underscoring the state’s support during this time of grief.

In honor of the victims of the flooding in the Texas Hill Country, the public is urged to participate in this commemoration by lowering flags at residences and places of business.
