Alabama Launches Program to Help Businesses Fight Trafficking

MONTGOMERY, AL. (WDNews) To combat human trafficking, Alabama Secretary of State Wes Allen and the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) have teamed up to introduce Alabama Combats Trafficking (ACT), a statewide initiative that engages local companies in the battle.

Businesses can apply to participate in the initiative through ACT at www.sos.alabama.gov/act/get-involved. In addition to receiving training materials with advice on spotting and preventing human trafficking, participating companies will be featured on the Secretary of State’s website. Additionally, they will be given a decal to wear, signifying their dedication to the cause.

In addition to encouraging all Alabamans to post the ACT website and brochure on their social media, Allen said he is urging all Alabama businesses to take part in this significant campaign. We are raising awareness of the battle against human trafficking throughout our state.

The program will assist the public in becoming effective partners in identifying victims and notifying law enforcement, according to ALEA Secretary Hal Taylor.

The Alabama Sheriffs Association and the Alabama District Attorneys Association have both endorsed the measure.

According to St. Clair County District Attorney Lyle Harmon, heightened knowledge encourages more people to report crimes, which helps law enforcement and prosecutors hold offenders accountable.

One phone call might save many lives, said Huey Hoss Mack, executive director of the Alabama Sheriffs Association. In order to address this very hazardous issue in all of our communities, this offers yet another useful tool.
