DOTHAN, AL (WDNews) — Residents of Wiregrass who have both Disney+ and Hulu subscriptions will soon notice a significant difference. Disney revealed this week that it intends to create a single streaming platform for consumers across the country by 2026 by completely integrating Hulu content into the Disney+ app.
Disney CEO Bob Iger said the action is a part of a larger plan to increase revenue and make access easier. The unified app will include Disney+ content, such as Marvel, Pixar, Star Wars, and National Geographic, together with Hulu’s news, live sports, and general entertainment programs.
This could result in more flexible pricing options and fewer apps to manage for viewers in southeast Alabama and throughout the Wiregrass. According to Iger, the modification will also enable Disney to simplify membership plans and provide packaged advertising opportunities.
Customers can continue to subscribe to Hulu or Disney+ separately for the time being, even if the standalone Hulu app will soon be phased off. In other countries, the Star area of the Disney+ interface will be replaced by Hulu content.
Disney also said that on August 21, a new ESPN app will be released. The app will cost $29.99 a month and be included in a streaming package alongside Disney+ and Hulu.
Disney is making these adjustments in an effort to better compete in the congested streaming market and adapt to changing viewing preferences, especially those of the Wiregrass.
