SEATTLE, WA (WDNews) — In addition to millions of other products, Amazon has extended its Same-Day Delivery service to include thousands of fresh grocery items, including produce, meat, seafood, dairy, baked goods, and frozen foods, with delivery in a matter of hours.

With aims to reach over 2,300 cities and towns by the end of 2025, the program already serves over 1,000 U.S. cities and towns. Same-Day Delivery is free for Prime members on orders over $25, but it costs $12.99 for non-Prime customers.

According to Amazon, early tests in a few cities shown high customer acceptance, with many first-time grocery shoppers coming back twice as frequently to place orders for fresh goods. Avocados, limes, honeycrisp apples, bananas, and strawberries are among the most perishable foods.

A temperature-controlled network is used to fulfill orders, and a six-point quality check is used to guarantee freshness. Deliveries are made in recyclable, insulated bags that resemble those used for Whole Foods Market and Amazon Fresh orders.

The action expands on Amazon’s grocery footprint, which consists of Whole Foods Market, Amazon Fresh, and alliances with regional merchants. The expansion, according to the firm, is a part of its mission to make grocery shopping easier, quicker, and less expensive.
