COTTONWOOD, AL (WDNews) — Early Thursday morning, emergency personnel were called to a rollover accident involving a single vehicle on South County Road 55 close to Cottonwood.
At 6:58 a.m., the caller reported that a red Chevrolet Z71 pickup had flipped in the center of the road, trapping the driver inside. The collision was reported to Houston County 911. At first, the incident was reported as involving serious injuries.
Officials said that shortly after the crash, Cottonwood Volunteer Firefighter Paul Hughes discovered it. The Houston County Sheriff’s Office, Cottonwood Fire, Cottonwood Rescue, and Cottonwood Police all sent emergency response units. Owing to the seriousness of the first complaint, Ashford Fire Department was also sent to help with potential extrication, and Dothan Fire Department was asked for mutual aid for advanced life support.
Responders discovered that the driver had already gotten out of the car by themselves when they arrived. The person refused medical transport despite the truck’s driver’s side being severely damaged. Consequently, Dothan Fire and Ashford Fire were canceled on the way.
The vehicle drove off the left side of County Road 55, jumped a ditch, and overturned while traveling south, according to preliminary inquiry. Before stopping in the road, the car seemed to have slid a considerable distance on its roof.
The inquiry is being led by Sgt. Justin Pearson of Cottonwood Police.
