Bay County, Fla. (WDNews) — A Bay County man is facing a manslaughter charge in connection with the overdose death of a 29-year-old woman earlier this year.
Authorities say 37-year-old Sterling Johnson was formally charged on July 17 following a months-long investigation by the Bay County Sheriff’s Office. The victim was found dead inside a residence on Jammie Road in February. The Medical Examiner’s Office later determined the cause of death was an overdose of Gamma-Hydroxybutyric Acid, commonly known as GHB.
Detectives say a search of Johnson’s home on April 25 uncovered illegal narcotics. Investigators later confirmed that the GHB linked to the victim’s death had been provided by Johnson.
He was previously arrested in April and charged with Trafficking in Methamphetamine (more than 28 grams), Possession of Marijuana, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and Resisting an Officer. Johnson remains in custody without bond on those charges. He now also faces a $1 million bond for the additional manslaughter charge.
