Dothan, Ala. (WDNews) – The Smithsonian is coming to Dothan! Landmark Park will host the nationally touring “Spark! Places of Innovation” exhibit from August 1–31, 2025, celebrating stories of creativity, discovery, and progress in rural America.
The opening reception is set for Friday, August 1 at 10 a.m., and the public is invited to attend. The exhibit, presented by the Smithsonian Institution and Alabama Humanities Alliance, highlights the people, ideas, and circumstances that have shaped innovation in small towns across the country.
Landmark Park, a 150-acre living history museum, will feature the exhibit daily, with hours Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sundays from noon to 4 p.m. Local programming partners include the City of Dothan and HudsonAlpha Wiregrass.
“Spark!” connects Dothan’s agricultural legacy—such as the innovations of George Washington Carver and the rise of the peanut industry—with today’s cutting-edge efforts like the new Wiregrass Innovation Center, opening soon to support ag-tech and biotech development in the region.
The exhibit aims to inspire visitors to see themselves as innovators in their own communities. For more information, contact Landmark Park at 334-794-3452 or visit landmarkparkdothan.com.
