Gov. Greg Abbott

announced

on June 30 a

new website

that provides educational resources to Texas students to help them succeed in the job market.

The new website is part of the Tri-Agency Workforce Initiative, which aims to transition students from education to the job market to help the state grow economically, according to its website. In collaboration with the Texas Education Agency, the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board and the Texas Workforce Commission, the initiative provides students with several resources, such as grant opportunities, career development tools and labor market information.

“The new Tri-Agency website streamlines access to services and reflects our commitment to a more user-friendly system for Texans,” said Bryan Daniel, the Texas Workforce Commission Chairman, in a news release. “This initiative underscores our dedication to strengthening the vital link between education, training and career opportunities.”

Wynn Rosser, commissioner of the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board, said he hopes to see the website act as a “front door to the college career workforce.” He also highlighted My Texas Future, a resource on the website that can help students plan their career path.

“(It) is a tool for students to better understand the Texas labor market, jobs that are available, what jobs are in high demand, what wages or what you can earn in those jobs,” Rosser said. “(It is) one that is applicable from the sixth grade all the way up to an adult that wants to re-skill and up-skill.”

Rosser said the state would like to ensure 60% of the working population earns a certification beyond a high school diploma, making the Tri-Agency Workforce Initiative a valuable endeavor.

“The state is putting resources into creating more opportunities for Texans to bring business and industry here — to grow the workforce even more,” Rosser said. “One of the important things that we need to do is continue ensuring that students and their families are aware of the depth and breadth of opportunities in our state.”

Rosser said the new website will help Texas prepare for the job market of the 21st century.

“We’ve got the eighth largest economy in the world,” Rosser said. “There is a job for everyone, and more and more of those jobs require certificates or degrees. That’s really the opportunity we have in front of us, is how do we help more students get the credentials they need to compete in the workforce?”
