FDA Urges Baby Food Industry to Improve Recall Alerts

WASHINGTON, D.C. (WDNews) –

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration is calling on food manufacturers and distributors to improve how they communicate product recalls, especially those involving infant formula and baby food.

In a statement released by FDA Commissioner, Marty Makary, he called for stronger, more transparent recall notices. He says that they are essential to protecting the nation’s youngest consumers.

“Today I am asking food industry leaders to join me in my commitment to radical transparency, with a focus on ensuring the safety and wellbeing of infants and children,” Makary said. “Protecting our most vulnerable is not just a moral duty—it is our responsibility.”

The FDA’s announcement supports its ongoing initiatives like Operation Stork Speed and recent panel reviews focused on infant nutrition safety. The agency said it will soon launch a centralized consumer-friendly webpage dedicated to recalls involving baby and children’s foods.

FDA Deputy Commissioner for Human Foods Kyle Diamantas expressed his enthusiasm for this change.

“We look forward to working with industry to increase public awareness of recalls involving infant formula, baby foods, and other foods intended for children,” Diamantas said.

Officials say the enhanced outreach will help families stay better informed and reduce risks to children’s health, especially as supply chains and communication platforms evolve.

The FDA emphasized this effort will require new partnerships, more resources and a shared commitment to public safety.
