MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WDNews) – Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall has announced the conviction of Tiffany Alexander Fields, a former nursing director at a Montgomery nursing home, for stealing hydrocodone tablets while on the job.
Fields pleaded guilty to one count of Theft of Property Second Degree in Montgomery Circuit Court and was sentenced to 18 months in the Department of Corrections community corrections program. She also surrendered her Alabama nursing license.
According to the Attorney General’s Medicaid Fraud Control Unit, Fields used pre-signed prescription pads left by the facility’s medical director to forge orders to the pharmacy between November 2022 and April 2023. She then intercepted the deliveries from the pharmacy courier and kept the narcotics.
“Those entrusted with the care of patients must be held to the highest standard. This conviction reflects our unwavering commitment to protecting vulnerable patients and holding bad actors accountable,” said Attorney General Marshall. “I commend our Medicaid Fraud Control Unit for their steadfast pursuit of justice.”
The case was referred by the Alabama Department of Public Health and prosecuted by Assistant Attorney General Nathan Mays.
The Medicaid Fraud Control Unit, a division of the Attorney General’s Office, is federally funded through the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office of Inspector General.
