ELBA, AL (WDNews) – Governor Kay Ivey has given the city of Elba a $150,000 Community Development Block Grant to help create jobs and new businesses.
Infrastructure for a new Jack’s Family Restaurants facility, which is expected to employ 25 people, will be provided with the money. It is also anticipated that the project will stimulate more commercial development in the region.
According to Governor Ivey, this funding will further encourage entrepreneurship and job creation in the city of Elba by helping to provide the infrastructure required for an Alabama-grown company. Residents of Elba will soon be able to find employment thanks to this project, which will also open the door for more growth and future employment opportunities.
On U.S. Highway 84, Jack’s intends to construct the eatery next to the Elba Travel Center. Founded in Homewood, Alabama, in 1960, the company now has over 250 sites in Alabama, Tennessee, Georgia, and Mississippi.
A 6-inch water pipe will be installed at the location using CDBG money, guaranteeing sufficient water pressure and fire suppression capabilities.
Kenneth Boswell, director of the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs, stated that this project will assist in providing water to companies in this specific area of Elba, both now and in the future. ADECA is happy to support this endeavor alongside Governor Ivey.
Elba Mayor Tom Maddox was officially informed of the grant approval by Governor Ivey. To assist the project, the city has committed $48,210 in local matching funds.
The grant is being administered by ADECA utilizing money from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. Law enforcement, traffic safety, economic development, energy conservation, water resource management, and recreational development are among the programs that the department is in charge of.
