DOTHAN, AL (WDNews) – This morning, the new Dothan Pickleball Complex was officially unveiled, drawing a crowd of community members, city officials, and sports fans. At 1603 Stadium Street, where work is shortly to start on a cutting-edge facility intended to accommodate the area’s increasing interest in the sport, the ceremony was held at 9:00 a.m.
The event, which was organized by Dothan Leisure Services, signaled the beginning of a fascinating new era in the city’s dedication to recreational development. One of the biggest pickleball complexes in the Wiregrass area, the upcoming facility will have 25 covered courts, parking, and spectator space.
According to Mayor Mark Saliba, the pickleball complex will help Dothan by connecting our wiregrass. There are pickleball courts in other smaller cities, which allows us to draw regional competitions and play a significant role in sports tourism.
Brandon Shoupe also discussed the Houston County Commission’s support, stating that the commission is fully in favor of this proposal for the following three reasons. First, Houston County residents will have an additional entertainment choice. Second, it provides young people with yet another incentive to relocate to Houston County and Dothan. If we want to draw in young people, we must expand the recreational alternatives. Three, it will give Dothan economic life.
Pickleball, a fast-growing sport that combines aspects of ping-pong, badminton, and tennis, has become increasingly popular nationwide. The project, according to city officials, demonstrates Dothan’s commitment to creating contemporary, age-appropriate recreational areas.
