DOTHAN, AL (WDNews) — Authorities at the Houston County Jail reported that an inmate was discovered unconscious and subsequently declared deceased on Sunday evening.
At approximately 9:16 p.m., emergency personnel from the Dothan Fire Department and Pilcher Ambulance were sent to the jail located at 901 East Main Street. Investigators and deputies from Houston County also arrived on the scene.
First responders confirmed the detainee was dead when they arrived. Major Bill Rafferty of the Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division and the Houston County Coroner’s Office were called in to conduct the investigation.
The convict had a known medical history, according to officials, and there were no indications of foul play. For additional analysis, the body has been taken to the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences.
The Houston County Sheriff’s Office and the Coroner’s Office are working together to lead the investigation.
