Strong Thunderstorm Moves Through Houston, Dale, and Henry Counties

DOTHAN, AL (WDNews) — As a powerful thunderstorm passed across parts of southern Dale, southwestern Henry, and north central Houston counties on Monday afternoon, the Tallahassee National Weather Service issued a Special Weather Statement.

Doppler radar tracked the storm at Midland City, near Headland, heading north at around 10 mph as of 1:32 p.m. CDT. At 1:28 p.m., Dothan Regional Airport recorded a wind gust of 37 mph.

Danger: Radar indicates that wind gusts could reach 40 mph.

Impact: Strong winds have the potential to topple tree branches and scatter loose outdoor items.

Potentially impacted areas include:

Blackwood, Mabson, Kelly Springs, Browns Crossroads, Goldberg Field, Headland Municipal Airport, Kinsey, Pinckard, Grimes, Newville, Napier Field, Sylvan Grove, Echo, Headland, Dothan, Midland City, and Dancey.

A Safety Note:

People who live in the storm’s path are advised to stay inside and secure any loose objects that might fly into the air.
