Enterprise, Alabama (WDNews) – As the Fourth of July draws near, Enterprise Fire Chief Christopher Davis is reminding the public that fireworks are legally forbidden inside the city limits and advising citizens to celebrate safely.
In 2024, approximately 14,700 fireworks-related injuries, including 1,700 involving sparklers, were treated in U.S. emergency rooms, according to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission.
According to Davis, children and young adults are more vulnerable to these injuries, which are frequently caused by sparklers and firecrackers. Sparklers are far from innocuous toys because they burn at about 1,200 degrees, which is hotter than a wood fire or boiling water.
While some of these injuries affect the head, face, and legs, many of them affect the hands and fingers. The days preceding Independence Day frequently see an uptick in incidents.
The safest choice is to use professional displays. Chief Davis added, “If you decide to use fireworks, keep in mind the dangers and that they are not permitted in Enterprise.”
Since 1999, Enterprise has prohibited the sale, possession, and usage of pyrotechnics inside the city borders. Roman candles, rockets, torpedoes, firecrackers, and similar objects are forbidden under the ordinance.
To assist ensure a safe and joyous holiday for everyone, Chief Davis advises everyone to take in professional-hosted public fireworks displays and to abide by city regulations.
