DOTHAN, AL (WDNews) — According to the most recent first-quarter 2025 cost-of-living index, the Dothan region is 14.3% less expensive than the national average, making it one of the most cheap locations to live in the United States.
The Council for Community and Economic Research (C2ER) creates the Cost-of-Living Index, which calculates the relative costs of consumer goods and services in participating regions. In every category, including groceries, housing, utilities, transportation, healthcare, and other goods and services, Dothan’s results were impressive. Here’s a summary:

- Housing 64.3% of the national average
- Utilities 78.6% of the national average
- Transportation 89.7% of the national average
- Healthcare 97.7% of the national average
- Miscellaneous Goods and Services 97.5% of the national average
Matt Parker, president of the Dothan Area Chamber of Commerce, says the cost-of-living index is a great way to draw in new companies and workers. According to Parker, this data provides more evidence that our region is a fantastic and reasonably priced place to live, work, and develop.
The cost of living in the Dothan area is still far lower than the national average, which draws both residents and businesses to the area. Dothan continues to be a popular option for people looking for a high standard of living at a reasonable price, with an overall cost of living that is 14.3% lower than the national average.
