Lee Jacobs Named Acting Superintendent for Dothan Schools

DOTHAN, AL (WDNews) — After a vote during Tuesday’s regular board meeting, the Dothan City Board of Education has appointed Lee Jacobs as Acting Superintendent. The appointment coincides with the board’s ongoing search for a long-term replacement for retiring Dr. Dennis Coe.

At the moment, Jacobs oversees the Division of Accountability and Compliance as Assistant Superintendent. She will take over the acting position right away in order to support district-wide leadership continuity.

Jacobs has 21 years of experience in the district and is a graduate of Dothan City Schools. In 2024, one of her children received their diploma from Dothan High School, and this autumn, another is scheduled to enroll.

“I feel privileged to be able to serve as Acting Superintendent,” Jacobs remarked. While assisting our committed staff throughout this time of transition, my main priorities will be maintaining and improving the high-quality educational opportunities for every student in our district.

Board members claim that the choice shows how confident they are in Jacobs’ capacity to maintain the district’s long-term strategic objectives and academic standards throughout the transition.

The Board of Education declared that it is still dedicated to finding a permanent superintendent through an exhaustive and inclusive search process.
