DOTHAN, AL (WDNews) During a search warrant execution on Tuesday, a significant drug operation in Dothan resulted in the seizure of a stolen car, guns, and a significant amount of illegal substances.
The Narcotics Division of the Dothan Police Department raided a residence in the 700 block of West Newton Street on June 24 with assistance from the Special Response Team. The search was a component of a larger probe into the city’s illicit drug use.
Officers found roughly 17 grams of pills laced with fentanyl, 22 grams of cocaine, 53 grams of methamphetamine and ecstasy, 1 ounce of marijuana, and 1.5 ounces of an unknown narcotic during the search. A stolen car, three firearms (including one that was reported stolen), other things connected to drug dealing, and roughly $1,000 in cash were also found by investigators.
Dothan resident Javon Antonio James, 33, was taken into custody on a number of felony offenses, including:
- Trafficking in Fentanyl
- Trafficking in Methamphetamine
- Possession with Intent to Distribute a Controlled Substance
- Possession of Marijuana 1st Degree
- Receiving Stolen Property 2nd Degree
As the investigation progresses, additional charges can be brought. The Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences will conduct tests on any seized substances.
Chief William E. Benny stated, “This seizure further demonstrates the Dothan Police Department’s commitment to getting these dangerous drugs off our streets.” To the utmost degree permitted by law, those who distribute, sell, or possess these harmful substances will face consequences.
According to authorities, the inquiry is still going on.
