COTTONDALE, Fla. (WDNews) On Friday, June 20, 2025, a traffic check on Highway 231 north of Campbellton resulted in a brief pursuit and several charges after the driver, Norris Wynn of Cottondale, tried to escape.
The stop of a suspected drunk driver was started by a deputy from the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO). The deputy found a gun on the ground between Wynn’s feet during the stop. A brief pursuit ensued after Wynn left in his car when questioned about the firearm. Eventually, Wynn went onto Dionne Road, where the deputy caught him trying to escape on foot.
Wynn was caught in possession of 57 grams of methamphetamine, 2 ounces of marijuana, and 20 grams of cocaine when he was arrested. But the gun that had been seen before was not found right away.
K9 handlers from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) helped the JCSO find the weapon. Later, the gun was found close to the original traffic stop site on Highway 231.
Felon in Possession of a Firearm, Possession of a Firearm in the Commission of a Felony, Trafficking in Methamphetamine, Possession with Intent to Distribute Cocaine, Possession of Marijuana, Failure to Resist Arrest, Fleeing and Eluding Law Enforcement, and Possession of a Controlled Substance are among the numerous charges against Wynn.
Sheriff Edenfield conveyed his appreciation for FWC’s help in tracking down the gun and bringing Wynn to justice.
