DALEVILLE, AL. (WDNews) In remembrance of the late Wally Olson, the 16-year Dale County sheriff, Governor Kay Ivey has approved the flying of flags at half-staff across Dale County on Saturday, June 21.
At the age of 53, Olson died on Wednesday, June 18.
Olson started his career in law enforcement as a jailer at the Dale County Jail and also held part-time positions with the Ariton Police Department, according to the Governor’s Office. He was elected sheriff in 2007 after serving as a Dale County Deputy.
Governor Ivey commended Olson’s leadership, empathy, and community service, emphasizing his part in ending a nationally publicized hostage situation involving a 5-year-old boy in 2013.
On Saturday, the day of Sheriff Olson’s burial, flags will be at half-staff from sunrise to sunset.
