Alabama Drivers Urged to Add Emergency Contact to License

(WDNews) Alabama officials are encouraging drivers to take a proactive safety measure by adding an emergency contact to their driver’s license, as the summer season begins with the 100 deadliest days on the road.

If that information is already connected to the driver’s license through the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA), law enforcement officials can promptly alert a loved one in the event of a serious collision, according to AAA Alabama.

“To be honest, not many people are aware of this fantastic program,” stated Clay Ingram, AAA Alabama spokeswoman.

By going to Driver License Online Services on the ALEA website, drivers can finish the procedure in a matter of minutes. Users are asked to add an emergency contact’s name, relationship, address, and phone number after providing their basic license information.

According to Ingram, many people rely on their cellphones for such purposes. However, important family communications may be delayed if your phone is misplaced, broken in a collision, or locked with a passcode. Doing this online for only three minutes might have a significant impact.

According to national road safety data, the 100 deadliest days are from Memorial Day to Labor Day and are particularly risky for teen drivers.

The emergency contact registration is free and is recommended for both parents and teenagers. Go to the ALEA website at atalea.gov to start the procedure.
