DOTHAN, Ala. (WDNews) — A woman has been found deceased following a shooting in the 400 block of East Spring Street, and authorities are actively searching for a suspect who remains at large.

Police were called to the scene just after 1 p.m. Tuesday in response to reports of a gunshot victim. Officers arrived to find a female victim deceased at the scene, suffering from a single gunshot wound to the upper torso.

Authorities have not released the identity of the victim, and the precise location of the shooting on the property remains under investigation. Crime scene investigators and the Houston County Coroner’s Office are working to process the area.

“We’re still trying to determine exactly where she was shot,” said Lieutenant Scott Owens during a media briefing. “The suspect has not been located, and we are doing everything we can to verify his involvement before releasing any identification.”

Investigators urged residents in the 400 to 500 block of East Spring Street to remain aware of their surroundings and, if possible, shelter in place while officers continue the search.

“This is a public safety concern,” Owens said. “We do believe the suspect may still be in the area.”

Anyone who notices suspicious activity is urged to contact the Dothan Police Department at 334-793-0215.

No arrests have been made at this time, and no suspects are currently in custody. However, multiple witnesses are being interviewed by criminal investigators.

Police plan to provide additional updates in a scheduled media briefing later this afternoon.

WDNews will continue to follow this developing story.

UPDATE: Police are searching for a suspect named Vincent Demire Phillips, 22 years old. Per Lt. Owens residents within a two mile radius are urged to lock your doors and shelter in place.
