Washington, D.C. (WDNews)
– President Donald Trump said Monday, June 16, that the U.S. is not aiming for a traditional cease-fire with Iran but instead wants what he called a “real end” to the conflict.
“We’re not looking for a cease-fire,” Trump told reporters. “We’re looking for them to give up entirely. It’s certainly possible. Completely give up.”
The remarks mark a hardline stance from the president amid ongoing military and diplomatic tensions in the region. When asked whether peace talks or diplomatic missions might be considered, Trump responded vaguely.
“I may. Depends on what happens when I get back.”
The president’s comments signal that the U.S. may not accept half-measures from Iran, instead demanding a full dismantling of hostile operations or nuclear ambitions as a condition for peace.
Trump also indicated that senior military leadership, including the Secretary of Defense and Joint Chiefs, have drawn up detailed plans in the event of an Iranian attack on U.S. bases or interests.
