MADISON COUNTY, Ala. (WDNews) – A former pool contractor who left multiple Madison County families with broken promises and unfinished backyards is now headed to prison.
Gregory Kirk of Muscle Shoals has pleaded guilty to several property crimes committed while operating as a pool contractor. On Friday, Madison County Circuit Judge Ruth Ann Hall sentenced him to 20 years in prison under a plea agreement with the State.
Kirk was accused of accepting large payments for pool construction jobs and never completing the work. Investigators say he also forged a contractor’s license, faked a building permit, and used a customer’s credit card without authorization.
He faced a total of 18 charges, including 14 counts of first-degree theft of property, second-degree theft, two counts of forgery, and fraudulent use of a credit or debit card.
“Several consumers entrusted Kirk with large sums of money, hoping to build their dream pools. Instead, they were met with heartbreak,” said Attorney General Steve Marshall. “He betrayed their trust, deceived them, and stole their hard-earned savings. Hopefully, those victims can find solace in the knowledge that he is finally being held accountable.”
As part of the plea, Kirk received 20-year sentences on the first-degree theft charges and five-year terms for the remaining offenses. All will run concurrently.
The case was handled by the Attorney General’s Consumer Interest Division with help from the Huntsville and Madison Police Departments, and the Madison County District Attorney’s Office.
