Washington County, Fla.; (WDNews) — A Washington County man is facing a felony charge after deputies say he assaulted his girlfriend and then ran from the scene.

The Washington County Sheriff’s Office responded to a home on Amethyst Lane on Saturday afternoon, June 8, after a woman reported that 34-year-old Stephen James Crigger had beaten her during an argument.

When deputies arrived, they found the woman with visible injuries. She told officers Crigger took off into a nearby wooded area when she tried to call 911.

A K-9 unit was brought in, and deputies were able to locate Crigger shortly after behind the residence.

Crigger, who also had an active warrant from another county for the same offense, was arrested and taken to the Washington County Jail. He’s charged with felony battery by strangulation.

The victim was taken to a local hospital for treatment.
