New students have started exploring the Forty Acres in anticipation of the first week of classes, full of nervousness and enthusiasm. The Daily Texan identified four campus events to look forward to in order to greet these incoming students.

September 3rd: Party on the Plaza

Speedway is well-known among students for its tabling in the first few weeks of the semester. Speaking to more than 300 student clubs and school services is possible during Party on the Plaza. Various spirit organizations, Greek life, and groups from business to medical organizations gather along the yellow bricks of Speedway Plaza between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. to advertise their groups with fliers, posters, and members. Speedway, one of UT’s main streets, runs alongside numerous academic buildings, making it difficult for students to miss the event and giving them a good chance to settle down on campus.

August 25 is Pluckers’ Free Appetizer Night.

Pluckers is a mainstay on UT’s West Campus, particularly on game days and enjoyable evenings. On August 25, Pluckers, which is located on Rio Grande Street, will give away one appetizer for free with a minimum purchase of $5 and at least one party member having a Pluckers Club account, regardless of whether you’re in the mood for a late-night snack or a mid-day lunch break. All you need is a student ID to receive this snack on the first day of class, which includes complimentary options like fried pickles, holy mac, or fried cheese.

Movie Night Series Blockbuster: Lilo and Stitch Aug. 28

Movie evenings are held in the Texas Union by Showtime, a student organization that is a subset of Campus Events & Entertainment. Recent releases like the new live-action Lilo and Stitch, which is showing on the first film night of the semester, are included in many of these blockbuster flicks. Students are advised to bring blankets and comfortable clothing in order to enjoy feature films, which are free to enter with a student ID.

Block Party in Texas, August 28

University Housing and Dining is hosting the Texas Block Party, which invites students to wear their cowboy boots for a night of dancing and refreshments in front of Jester Center at the intersection of 21st Street and Speedway. In addition to providing amusement and fun, this event is completely waste-free. Before the first week of classes ends, students are invited to celebrate with live music from DJ Draco, games, activities, and a special appearance by UT’s mascot, Hook Em.
