Residents on San Antonio’s West Side woke up to tragic news Sunday after a violent, high-speed crash on Highway 90 left one woman dead and another man seriously injured. The crash, which happened just after midnight, temporarily shut down all eastbound lanes near Southwest 36th Street.
The incident unfolded around 12:30 a.m. Sunday when a suspect vehicle, speeding eastbound on U.S. Highway 90, lost control and spun out, according to San Antonio police. That vehicle rear-ended another, sparking a deadly chain-reaction crash involving multiple motorcycles.
A 29-year-old woman riding a motorcycle was unable to stop in time and slammed into one of the vehicles. She was thrown from her bike and pronounced dead at the scene, officials confirmed.
Another motorcyclist was also struck during the chaos. He was ejected from his motorcycle and suffered a broken arm, according to KSAT News.
Suspects Fled the Scene on Foot
Witnesses told police they saw a man and a woman fleeing the vehicle that caused the crash. Authorities later identified and detained both individuals for questioning. According to the San Antonio Police Department, they were released pending further investigation.
Investigators are working to determine whether drugs, alcohol, or reckless driving were factors in the crash.
