Footage released by the K2 combat group of the 54th Mechanized Brigade of the Ukrainian Ground Forces shows Ukrainian soldiers using a first-person view (FPV) kamikaze drone to destroy a Russian 2S4 self-propelled mortar.
The military group said: “Tulip burned for a long time, and then exploded.”
The Tulip is a Cold War-era 240mm self-propelled mortar designed to destroy cities. Such a mortar can hit targets even at a distance of about 20 kilometers.
2S4 was developed by the Uraltransmash plant in the early 1970s, the 2B8 240mm mortar system was developed by the Perm Machine-Building Plant. “Tulips” were used by the Russian army in the battles in Chechnya, and they are currently deployed in Ukraine. So far, only five cases of destruction of such machines have been officially confirmed.
It has already been reported that in early March, the 72nd separate mechanized brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine destroyed such a mortar in the Donbas region. This platform was destroyed near Ugledar, where the Russians regularly suffer heavy losses in both equipment and manpower.
The loss of Russian troops in Ukraine in more than a year has reached almost 242,000 people. The scale of Russia’s losses is being specified, since obtaining information is difficult due to military operations.
