They extradite the alleged leader of the drug trafficking structure “Arpón Neptuno” that operated in seven countries – Prensa Libre

The National Civil Police (PNC) reported this morning the arrest of Owen Esmery de León Villagrán, 37, after being accused of leading a drug trafficking structure called “Arpón Neptuno”.

According to the investigations carried out by the Prosecutor’s Office against Narcoactivity, Arpon Neptuno began its narcotic activities in Colombia, where the drug came from, and then transported it by air, sea and land to Guatemala to finally reach the United States. Its operations also extended to Panama, Costa Rica, Ecuador, El Salvador and Mexico.

De León Villagrán is charged with the crimes of illegal trade, trafficking and storage. The arrest warrant in Guatemala was issued on October 1, 2018 by a San Marcos court.

On May 23, 2019, he was arrested in Colombia and since then the procedures for his extradition to Guatemala have begun.

According to the MP, the initial leaders of the gang were the Lemus Lara brothers, who were captured in 2018 and extradited to the United States. The rest of the organization was arrested through the Neptune Harpoon operation carried out in 2018 in which all countries detained the accused based in each country

The Guatemalan Narcoactivity Crimes Prosecutor’s Office and other prosecutors in Mexico, Ecuador and Colombia participated in the investigation.

So far, 14 people have been convicted of various crimes related to drug trafficking.
