Jakarta: A super blue moon or blue full moon will brighten Indonesian skies in late August. This super blue moon will look bigger and brighter than a regular full moon. This is because the Moon is at its closest point to the Earth.
At this close distance from Earth, which is about 363,300 km, this super blue moon event will be the only one from which extraordinary views of the moon can be seen at night during 2023.
According to NASA, this blue supermoon event will occur on Wednesday, August 30, 2023 in the American sky. But for those of you who want to see this phenomenon, don’t worry, because this blue moon will also be visible in the sky of Indonesia!

“Blue moon is a layman’s term referring to the second full moon that occurs in the same month. The peak of the first full moon falls on August 2 at 2:32 WIB. If you want to take a close look at the surface of the Moon, a telescope is the way to go. However, this blue moon can also only be seen with the naked eye. Later, a super blue moon in August 2023 will be accompanied by another bright light coming from the planet Saturn.
Within a few days, the ringed gas giant will pass through opposition, the point at which it is directly opposite the Sun as seen from Earth, making it particularly bright in the night sky. When viewed from the southern hemisphere, Saturn will appear under the Moon.
The blue moon phenomenon itself is not a rare occurrence. Astronomically, this phenomenon occurs every two to three years. The last time a blue moon appeared was in August 2021, and the next one is expected again in August 2024.
