The reputation of the new director of the Department of Sports, Steinberg, was evaluated by a special commission; risks are invisible

Steinberg’s reputation was assessed by an evaluation commission that took into account all the information it had, including publicly available information on the website of the Office for Combating Corruption and Corruption regarding violations of the law on preventing conflicts of interest identified in the activities of public officials, as well as publicly available information in the insolvency register. It is also checked whether the applicant has been an official of any political party or association within the last 24 months.

Steinberg is on probation, during which professional management will be required, the Interior Ministry said.

Steinberg himself committed to achieving the goals set out in the Sports Policy Guidelines by 2027, “so that they give both a short-term positive effect and become the basis for the stable development of the sports industry in the long term.”

According to information from the archive of the LETA agency, Steinbergs has been in charge of the Daugavpils Olympic Center since 2019. From 2013 to 2019 he was the Deputy Director of the Riga Football School, and from 2009 to 2013 he worked for the Latvian Football Federation.

Steinbergs graduated from the Latvian Academy of Sports Pedagogy with a degree in Management in Sports and Education, and also studied management at the Faculty of Business Administration and Economics of the University of Latvia with a degree in Strategic Management and Leadership.

As reported, since March, its long-term head Edgars Severs, who is currently the deputy director of the Health and Sports Center of the Ministry of the Interior (IEM), Irena Misus, has left the position of director of the Sports Department for labor protection, physical training of officials and sports.

Until now, the duties of the Director of the Department of Sports have been performed by the Deputy Secretary of State for Administrative Affairs of the Ministry of Internal Affairs Ginta Ozola, according to the website of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
