A driver involved in a hit-and-run incident was killed about 10 minutes later in a fiery crash on Interstate 10 eastbound in Beaumont Sunday morning, according to police.
Beaumont officers said the initial hit-and-run occurred around 8:30 a.m. near Washington Boulevard and 11th Street.
The suspect vehicle fled the scene and crashed shortly after, around 8:40 a.m., in the 800 block of I-10. Police responded to reports of a single-vehicle crash involving a car on fire.
Two people were inside the vehicle at the time. The driver died at the scene, while the passenger was taken to St. Elizabeth Hospital and is in stable condition.
The downtown distributor and all lanes have since reopened. Authorities are still investigating both the hit-and-run and the fatal crash.
