Sciatica is a very common ailment. In fact, it is estimated that up to 80% of the population has suffered from these discomforts at some point in their lives. Specifically, it occurs when there is compression of the sciatic nerve that causes pain, numbness, tingling, or weakness in the back, buttocks, and legs. These symptoms can come from an injury or from different diseases.
In this video, our personal trainer Víctor Téllez (@vtellezcoach) teaches us a simple exercise that people with sciatica can practice to reduce discomfort.
To execute it, the first step is to separate the legs and then proceed to a lateral stride. During it, we must bring the opposite elbow of the leg that suffers sciatica forward. The other elbow, on the contrary, we move it back. In this position, we exhale. On the other hand, it is important that, in the execution of this movement, let’s flex the hip.
As Téllez points out, this exercise will allow the coordination of the respiratory muscles and work the spine in the transverse planean area that usually has restricted movement.
