The Istanbul Municipality, which wanted to demolish an illegally built sales office in the Zeytinburnu Seytnizam Mahallesi green zone, was blocked by the police.

A multi-storey square with a glass facade was built in the Zeytinburnu Seyitnizam Mahallesi, Quarter 3284, Section 59 Green Zone, which was made available to the public in 2003 by the General Directorate of Highways.
IMM Zoning Authority teams discovered the illegal structure in 2021. The council decided to demolish the square. After that, the Ministry of the Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change intervened and changed the plan of the building.
Banned in May
The IMM Zoning Authority has initiated this process. AkZirve Turizm İnşaat Gayrimenkul Yatırım Ticaret Anonim Şirketi, which learned how to use the illegal building as a sales office, sued the deal.
The court ruled in favor of the IMM, canceled the plan to change the ministry and recognized the actions taken under Law No. 775 as legal. There are no legal barriers to the demolition of an illegal structure. In May, IMM teams began demolition.
However, this time the owners of the illegal buildings went to court and obtained a delay in the execution of the decision. The IMM also objected to the stay of the executive decision. The higher court found IMM’s motion valid and overturned the decision.
Governor and District Governor
This time, the police appeared before the IMM teams, who again started the demolition this morning. Although the provisions of the court were clear and the ruling was in favor of the IMM, the Istanbul Governor’s Office sent an official letter to the Zeytinburnu District Governor’s Office on the grounds that the trial was still ongoing and demanded that it be stopped.
The IMM Zoning Directorate and municipal police teams came face to face with the police. While the teams were waiting for the legal demolition process, an application was submitted to the 12th Administrative Court on behalf of AkZirve Turizm İnşaat Gayrimenkul Yatırım Ticaret Anonim Şirketi.

While the court asked for time to make a decision, this time the governor of Istanbul, Davut Gul, intervened. Signed by the Governor himself, a formal letter was sent to the Provincial Department of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change and the relevant parties asking them not to take any demolition action on the grounds that the building had been transferred to the treasury. , AkZirve Turizm İnshaat Gayrimenkul Yatırım Ticaret Anonim Şirketi applied to rent the building and the request was considered. The IMM brigades were unable to clean up the area according to the governor’s letter.
