Crews extinguished a big fire Sunday morning when a gasoline truck collided with a public transportation bus on I-595 near Davie, according to authorities.

One victim was transported to Broward Health Medical Center with serious and life-threatening injuries.

The incident occurred around 10 a.m. in the eastbound lanes of I-595 near Flamingo Road, resulting in a major reaction from Davie Fire Rescue, Sunrise Fire Department, and BSO Fire Rescue HazMat crews.

Witnesses reported thick plumes of smoke rising into the air.

The fires were soon brought under control by emergency responders later that morning. All eastbound and express lanes of I-595 remain closed between Pine Island Road and Southwest 136th Avenue as crews work on hazard mitigation and cleanup.

The reason of the crash has not yet been determined, and the Florida Highway Patrol is conducting an investigation. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and seek other routes.
