A North Texas man is facing significant charges after allegedly causing a fatal crash and attempting to flee the scene. The crash occurred around 9:30 p.m. on Thursday on Highway 287 near Ramhorn Hill Road in Rhome, Wise County.
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, Alan Schutt of Boyd, 58, was driving northbound when he collided with two cars stopped on the shoulder.
Schutt also struck a person who was standing near one of the cars before driving across the centre median and colliding with an SUV travelling south.
The pedestrian, Destiny Quintanilla, 19, of Grand Prairie, was carried to the hospital and died.
The driver of one of the parked automobiles, a 20-year-old Grand Prairie resident, was treated for minor injuries and released.
The driver of the SUV was not injured.
According to witnesses, Schutt attempted to flee the scene of the collision shortly after it occurred.
They apprehended and detained him until state troopers arrived.
He was arrested because troopers thought that alcohol was involved.
Schutt is still being held at the Wise County jail.
He is charged with intoxication manslaughter and failing to stop and render aid resulting in death.
