Niagara Falls are lit with the colors of the Dominican flag

The Niagara Falls were lit Thursday night with the colors of the Dominican flag, in commemoration of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women.

Through its social networks, the Dominican Embassy in Canada published images of the event, which occurred after 10 at night, Eastern time in the North American country.

The set of waterfalls was also illuminated in orange as a way to support the campaign against gender violence that promotes United Nations with the slogan “Paint the world orange: End violence against women NOW!”

Michelle Cohen, Dominican ambassador to Canada, said that the illumination of Niagara Falls was carried out “in an exercise in creating awareness to redouble efforts to achieve the long-awaited equality.”

“We have chosen these beautiful tributaries as symbols of the purity and spiritual cleanliness that nourish our lands and reflect the life that every woman should enjoy. We make this gesture for each one of them who, in the forge of the fight for equality, have lost their most valuable asset: life, “said the diplomat.

The waterfalls are located about 236 meters above sea level and their fall is approximately 51 meters. They are located on the Niagara River, between the United States and Canada.
