A Columbus mother and her 4-year-old boy were killed in a crash with a tractor-trailer in Washington County, Pennsylvania, authorities said.
The Washington County Coroner’s Office reported that Abdul-Salami Touray, 4, and his mother, Aisha Trawally, 25, perished in a crash near the Claysville exit on Interstate 70 shortly after 1 p.m. on May 11.
Police have yet to identify a third person in the car with Trawally and her son at the time of the collision. According to troopers, a Toyota Camry driving westbound on I-70 lost control and crossed the median into the eastbound lanes, colliding head-on with a tractor-trailer.
The hit forced both occupants out of the automobile, according to state police. The tractor-trailer collided with a house, but the driver and the people inside were treated by paramedics and discharged.
Touray was not secured in a car seat, and neither the mother nor the driver wore seat belts, according to the Observer-Reporter, a Washington, Pennsylvania newspaper.
Touray was airlifted to UPMC Washington Hospital and died at 2:04 p.m., according to the Observer-Reporter. His mother was confirmed dead on the scene, and the driver was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
