USA.- Fans have finally gotten their first look at the new movie of Taika Waititi, Next Goal Wins. The middle ew released the first images of the upcoming film starring michael fassbender What thomas rongena Dutch soccer coach who is on the other side of the world in charge of the worst soccer team on the planet.
After a world record loss for a competitive international soccer match, the American Samoa national team looked to bounce back from their humiliating 31-0 loss to Australia bringing in a coach with new ideas. The move to name Rongen was covered in a 2014 documentary of the same name, and Waititi saw enough potential in the story to make his own feature out of it.
Years ago, I watched it and I couldn’t believe I’d never heard of this story before,” said Waititi, who is fresh off Thor: Love and Thunder, which was released in the summer. “I’ve never done a sports movie before, and I really wanted to try it. It’s a sport I don’t know much about. Rugby is the national sport in New Zealand, but it’s about underdogs, and I love underdog stories. Most of my films are about people who live on the fringes, or who are a bit left out, and they just fit the bill for me. It’s a true story, but it has all the elements that all great sports movies have. It’s basically the Cool Runnings of soccer
Fassbender will play Rongen, who, as Waititi explains, was the only one who answered the team’s call for a new coach: “He had a pretty good playing career, and then he had a bunch of coaching jobs in the States. He he was really the only person who answered the call. He was the one who said, ‘Yeah, I’ll go there and try.'”
In addition to Fassbender, the film also features Elizabeth Moss Y Will Arnett, as Rongen’s ex-wife, and a soccer executive, respectively. Samoan-New Zealand actor Oscar Kightley also figures, playing the head of the soccer federation of American Samoaas well as kamaina, who plays the trans soccer player Jaiyah Saelua. Of Jaiya, Waititi says:
Jaiya is a transgender player, one of the team’s star players, and much of the film revolves around her relationship with Thomas Rongen.
