Starring Margot Robbie and with a budget of 80 million dollars, “Babylon” closes the year as one of the most tremendous failures. It does so by grossing just $3.5 million in its opening weekend in US theaters. According to the TMZ gossip portal, the production estimated at least 5.3 million for its debut.
The film features a cast of great Hollywood figures with Brad Pitt and Tobey Maguire in their ranks. And not even that has been able to guarantee a decent premiere for the film that explores some controversial secrets behind the movie mecca.
But Robbie’s misfortune is preceded by the great failure of “Amsterdam.” This other film was also around $80 million and only achieved 16 million in the United States. Neither Christian Bale, Robert De Niro, Rami Malek or Taylor Swift, in the cast, managed to boost it.
The bad news is piling up for Robbie, who a few weeks ago had to deal with the cancellation of the latest “Pirates of the Caribbean” movie. In it he would be seen giving life to the leading role but he would also be behind the production.
In 2023, Margot Robbie will be in charge of “Barbie”. Fortunately, the teaser trailer for her generated high expectations. In the film she will be seen together with Ryan Gosling. At the same time, she will star in Wes Anderson’s “Asteroid City,” a prequel to the popular “Ocean’s Eleven.” Both productions will have luxury casts, full of celebrities, so they could suffer the same fate as “Babylon” and “Amsterdam.”
At the moment, Robbie only has to cross his fingers in the hope that 2023 will be a better year for his film work.
